Planned Parenthood of the North Country New York provides high-quality, affordable family planning and reproductive health care for nearly 12,000 women and men in the North Country each year no matter what. We have seven health centers throughout Clinton, Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties.
POSITION SUMMARY:The Community Advocate provides crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy and referrals in response to the needs of survivors of sexual assault and their families. In addition to these duties, the Community Advocate will also be responsible for developing, scheduling and presenting community education programs and for directing outreach activities to target historically under-served populations. This position will serve all of Franklin County.
Direct Client Services:
Provide in-person and telephone counseling of victims, survivors and secondary victims of sexual assault including referrals, information and follow-up contacts.
Provide criminal justice, law enforcement, personal and medical advocacy for victims and survivors of sexual assault.
Provide compensation claims assistance.
Follow OVS grant directives including maintaining and submitting statistical data to the Sexual Assault Services Coordinator for monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
Develop, schedule and provide vital education sessions to adolescent and adult audiences on a wide range of topics including child sexual abuse prevention, human anatomy and physiology, safe dating, consent, the role of bystanders, healthy relationships, sexual harassment and sexual assault prevention.
Visit college classrooms, provide outreach at college events, present training to human service agency staff and correctional facility staff as well as to a variety of civic and community groups.
Provide consultation and training, designed to meet community needs, for professionals, individuals, and groups.
Maintain a presence in the community at health and human service events, engage in enhanced outreach to direct patients to care; offer and arrange services.
